Easily Accessible Historical Taragona

By Flora Martin at 2010-12-14 04:48:39

The historical city of Tarragona sits majestically at the top of a rocky hill way above the raging sea. It has seen the likes of Iberians and Carthaginians as well as the Romans who conquered this peninsula in 218 BC when Scipio went up against Hannibal.

Strategic location

Taragona became Augustus’ imperial resort when Tarraco became Rome’s capital. It grew to become the best Roman Spain cultured city with 250,000 inhabitants. Emperors were frequent visitors to this handsome affluent resort for its fine setting of beautiful Roman ruins and splendid museums that are medieval in culture. A rocky coastline opens up to some pleasant beaches. It only takes a one and a half hour bus or train ride from Barcelona for a day trip but a one night stay is also possible through earlier reservations for accommodation, especially during peak season like July or August.

City Attractions

The main attraction lies at the upper part of the town called the sweeping Rambla Nova which offers many quaint cafes and eateries; it forms quite a competition for Barcelona for its cuisine offering. Close by is the Rambla Vella which means starting section of the old quarter. You can discover amazing Roman relics on both sides of these ramblas in the forms of temples, forum and amphitheatre structures. However, these sites are closed on Mondays. Public transportation
Regular train service every half hour allows the visitor much convenience in dropping by this town; a pleasant 90 minute journey from Sants Estació allows you to reach Tarragona easily to enjoy this quaint town.

The train station is very close to Rambla Nova where you can begin your exploration of the town easily as everything is close by. The bus terminal is easily available at the end of Rambla Nova. Buses from Barcelona are also very frequent; more than 18 times plying the road every day taking 90 minutes for each run. For those who prefer a more comfortable ride opt for a taxi at the Moto Club on Rambla Nova or a bus or train stations.

Tourist information

The local tourism office is located at Calle Major 39 in the old quarter area. Seasonal tourist information booths are available in the months of July to September at the Imperial Plaza or during the start of the festival Via Augusta. Bank offices are located at Rambla Nova. Money changes, travelers’ checks and hold mail services can be performed at Viajes Eurojet if the bank is unavailable. American Express services are handled here too. The local post office is located at Corsini Placa which opens daily except on Sundays. There is also a telephone service available in an office along Rambla Nova.

Spain offers countless possibilities and Club Villamar chooses to holiday homes in all popular areas, the great options are ferienhäuser lloret de mar, ferienhäuser pineda de mar and ferienhaus costa brava and here you can read my blogs Flora Martin and my Articles Flora Martin
